Marketing Cloud Engagement, today

If you need a Salesforce Marketing Cloud consultant, you are almost certainly running Marketing Cloud Engagement, the platform most people still call SFMC. Our Salesforce Marketing Cloud consulting covers it end to end, from a first build to a rescue.

Marketing Cloud Engagement (MCE) is Salesforce’s platform for high-volume, cross-channel customer engagement. Email, SMS, push, in-app and web, orchestrated through Journey Builder and fed by data extensions.

It is genuinely powerful, and it is also the platform where more organizations get quietly stuck than any other in the Salesforce estate. The usual pattern: it was implemented by someone who left, half the automations are undocumented, the data extensions have grown into a swamp, and nobody wants to touch the journey that is somehow still working.

What we do in Marketing Cloud

  • Implementation - new MCE builds done properly, with a data model and naming conventions that survive contact with reality
  • Rescue and audit - inheriting somebody else’s instance, documenting it, and stabilizing what is fragile
  • Complex SQL segmentation - query activities and data extension design for audiences that need real logic, not just filters
  • Journey Builder and Automation Studio - lifecycle journeys, onboarding, re-engagement and abandonment, and the automations underneath them, built to be readable by the next person
  • AMPscript and SSJS - personalization, dynamic content and server-side scripting where the out-of-the-box features stop
  • CloudPages and custom preference centers - landing pages, forms and preference centers built to your brand, with consent handled once, properly, rather than per campaign
  • APIs and Marketing Cloud Connect - integration with Sales Cloud and Service Cloud, API-triggered sends, and data flowing in from the systems around it
  • Mobile messaging - SMS and push alongside email
  • Multi-business-unit architecture - business units, permissions and shared assets structured for organizations running several brands, schools or regions, where applicable
  • Deliverability - authentication, reputation, list hygiene and suppression strategy
  • Reporting - numbers leadership can act on rather than open rates in isolation

Journey Builder in Salesforce Marketing Cloud is where a lot of this comes together: building new journeys, auditing the ones nobody remembers setting up, and repairing the ones that quietly stopped sending.

And the path to Marketing Cloud Next

Here is the question every MCE customer is now asking. Marketing Cloud Next is not a version bump on MCE. It is a rebuilt generation of the platform, native to Data 360 (formerly Data Cloud), and if your organization has years of MCE investment sitting on the books, it deserves a straight answer about what happens to it.

Marketing Cloud Engagement (today)Marketing Cloud Next
Data foundationIts own data model - data extensions, subscriber keys, contact builderBuilt directly on Data 360 and the unified profile
Audience buildingSQL queries and filtered data extensionsData 360 segments, shared across the whole platform
PersonalizationAMPscript and dynamic content per sendProfile-driven, with AI operating on unified data
AIEinstein features bolted onto the existing modelNative, grounded in Data 360, and shared with Agentforce

What should move, when, and what should stay in MCE for now is different for every estate. The readiness assessment works that out for yours, asset by asset.

How we run a Marketing Cloud engagement

Every engagement, from a new Salesforce Marketing Cloud implementation to taking over an existing one, is run by a certified Marketing Cloud Engagement consultant. The steps are the same either way.

From audit to running journeys

1
AuditWhat exists, what runs, what breaks, and what nobody documented. Written down and handed to you regardless of what happens next.
2
DataData extension structure, integration and consent handling, because everything downstream depends on it.
3
BuildJourneys, automations and templates, with naming conventions and documentation as you go.
4
DeliverabilityAuthentication, warm-up where needed, hygiene and suppression strategy.
5
MeasureReporting that connects sends to revenue rather than to open rates.
6
EnableTraining your team so routine changes never need a consultant.

Marketing Cloud questions we get asked

Is Marketing Cloud Engagement the same as SFMC?

Yes. Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC) was renamed Marketing Cloud Engagement, or MCE. Same platform, and the two names are still used interchangeably in most job posts and RFPs, so if you are looking for an SFMC consultant, this is the work we do.

Can you take over a Marketing Cloud instance somebody else built?

Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. We audit what exists, document what nobody wrote down, stabilize what is breaking, and give you an honest read on what is worth keeping versus rebuilding.

Do we need Data 360 to use Marketing Cloud Engagement?

Not for MCE as it exists today - it has its own data model. But if you are planning for Marketing Cloud Next, you will need Data 360, because MC Next is built on it.

How do you handle deliverability problems?

We start with the boring, high-impact things: authentication records, sending domain and IP reputation, list hygiene, engagement-based suppression, and whether your send patterns look human. Most deliverability crises are the accumulation of small neglect, not one dramatic event.
