What Salesforce Agentforce is, minus the hype
Agentforce is Salesforce’s platform for autonomous AI agents - software that can reason over your customer data, take defined actions inside your CRM, and escalate to a human when it hits the edge of what it should handle. Not a scripted chatbot. Not a search box with a friendly voice.
It is also where the gap between a demo and production can be widest. Every vendor can show you an impressive agent on clean sample data. The question is what happens on your data.
An AI agent is a mirror held up to your data quality. If the profile underneath is a mess, the agent will be confidently, fluently wrong - in front of a customer.
Why we lead with the data
When an agent needs to know a customer’s history across several systems, the quality of that data shapes the quality of its answers. Where it helps, we ground agents in unified Data 360 (formerly Data Cloud) profiles, so they work from a current, consistent view of the customer rather than whichever fragment happened to be nearest. Data quality, permitted actions, testing and supervision all reduce risk; none of them guarantees an agent will always behave correctly, and we say so up front.
| Agent without reliable data | Agent grounded in good data |
|---|---|
| Sees one system's fragment of the customer | Can draw on a unified profile across systems |
| More likely to contradict what the customer was told elsewhere | More consistent with service, sales and marketing history |
| Unclear when to escalate | Escalates on defined conditions |
| Untested beyond the demo | Tested and supervised before and after launch |
Agentforce use cases we build
For service teams, Agentforce Service Agent is usually the natural starting point, because the requests are high volume and well documented.
- Service agents that handle common questions and routine requests - status, logistics, simple account changes - and hand off to a person with full context when they should
- Sales agents that qualify inbound leads, answer product questions and book meetings around the clock without a human waiting on the other end
- MC Next campaign and content agents - Agentforce inside Marketing Cloud Next, helping your marketing team build campaigns and on-brand content faster
- Internal agents that surface the right record, the next step or the buried answer for your own team inside Salesforce
- Actions and integrations so agents can actually do things - update a record, create a case, book a slot - not just talk about them
- Guardrails - topic boundaries, tone, permitted actions, and explicit escalation rules
Agentforce marketing agents run inside Marketing Cloud Next, where they help your team build campaigns and on-brand content from the same unified customer data as everything else.
How we deploy an agent responsibly
Every Agentforce implementation starts with the job, not the technology: one use case, chosen because a mistake is recoverable and a win is measurable.
From use case to live agent
Certified, and realistic
The Agentforce consultant on your project is Paula, a certified Agentforce specialist and an Agentforce Innovator, with more than twenty years in IT behind that. In practice that means being realistic about what to automate now and what to keep with a person for another release. Agentforce questions we get asked
What is Agentforce?
Agentforce is Salesforce's platform for building autonomous AI agents that can reason over your data, take action inside Salesforce, and hand off to a human when they should. It is not a chatbot with a decision tree - it works from your records and your defined actions.
Do we need Data 360 to use Agentforce?
Not always. Data 360 (formerly Data Cloud) adds the most value when an agent needs a customer's history from several systems - for example, a service agent that should know about recent orders, cases and communications together. For a narrow use case that works from one system's records and a knowledge base, it may not be needed at first. We look at the use case and tell you which applies.
How do we reduce the risk of an agent getting something wrong?
No AI agent is guaranteed to be right every time. What reduces the risk is good data, a narrow scope, clearly permitted actions, testing and supervision. We define the topics an agent may handle, the actions it may take, the tone it uses, and the conditions under which it must hand off to a person. Then we test it, including deliberately difficult cases, before customers see it, and keep a person reviewing conversations during the pilot.
What is a realistic first Agentforce use case?
Something high-volume, low-risk and well-documented - order status, appointment logistics, routine account questions, lead qualification. Prove the pattern there, measure it honestly, then expand. Starting with your most sensitive workflow is a bad idea.
Are you actually certified on Agentforce?
Yes. Paula is a certified Agentforce specialist and an Agentforce Innovator, with the enterprise architecture background to deploy it responsibly rather than as a demo.
